Mexican Chocolate Cake

"This is a moist chocolate cake with a hint of cinnamon. This recipe will make a large one layer cake or a two layer quarter sheet cake." Ingredients 2 cups all-purpose flour  1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder  2 cups white sugar  1 teaspoon baking soda  1 teaspoon ground cinnamon  1/2 cup margarine, softened  1/2 cup vegetable oil  1 cup water  1/2 cup sour milk  2 eggs  1 teaspoon vanilla extract Directions Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 12x18 inch pan. In a large bowl, stir together the flour, cocoa, sugar, baking soda and cinnamon. Add the margarine, oil, water, sour milk, eggs and vanilla, mix until smooth. Spread evenly into the prepared pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool.

Easy Crunchy Berry Parfaits

"Nutritious, delicious, easy, and so elegant. Garnish with a strawberry, a blueberry and a drizzle of honey." Ingredients 2 cups   sliced fresh strawberries 2 cups   vanilla yogurt 1 cup   granola 1   bananas, sliced 1/2 cup   fresh blueberries 1 tablespoon   honey, or to taste (optional) Directions Place about 1/2 cup strawberry slices into 2 glasses or parfait dishes. Spoon about 1/2 cup yogurt into each glass and top with about 1/4 cup granola. Divide remaining strawberries into glasses and top with banana slices. Place about 1/4 cup blueberries over bananas and top with remaining 1 cup yogurt. Layer remaining 1/2 cup granola over yogurt and drizzle each parfait with honey.

Hot spiced apple juice

Ingredients 4 apples (we used jonathan) 2 cinnamon sticks 4 cardamom pods, cracked Method Step 1 Remove cores from apples. Cut apples into 2cm cubes. Step 2 Place apple, cinnamon and cardamom in a large saucepan. Pour over 5 cups cold water. Place over medium heat and bring to the boil. Step 3 Reduce heat to low. Simmer, partially covered, for 18 to 20 minutes or until apple is soft. Step 4 Strain juice into a jug. Pour into heatproof glasses and serve.

Apple, spinach and mint juice

Ingredients 5 green apples 4 celery stalks 100g baby spinach leaves 2 cups mint leaves 1 lime, peeled Method Step 1 Pass all ingredients through a juicer, then transfer to a jug and serve.

Dreamy Nighttime Drink

Ingredients 1 cup   milk 1 teaspoon   honey 2 drops   vanilla extract 1 pinch   ground cinnamon Directions Pour milk into a microwave safe mug and place into microwave. Cook on High until the milk is very hot and begins to foam, about 3 minutes. Stir in honey and vanilla, then sprinkle with cinnamon before serving.

Caffè Shakerato

ingredients 1 espresso, freshly made Ice cubes Optional ingredients: Sugar syrup (as desired) A few drops vanilla extract or syrup Twist of lemon or orange peel preparation Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice cubes. Pour the espresso over the ice. Add sugar or vanilla syrup to sweeten, if desired. Those with baroque palates may add vanilla extract or syrup,  or lemon or orange twist. Shake vigorously for 10 to15 seconds and strain into a cocktail (Martini) glass or champagne flute.

ABOUT THE  MILK & HONEY  COCKTAIL This easy-to-make drink will take you to the Promised Land. INGREDIENTS IN THE  MILK & HONEY COCKTAIL 1.75 oz   Bénédictine Milk Garnish: Orange slice and cinnamon stick Glass: Mug HOW TO MAKE THE  MILK & HONEY COCKTAIL Add the Bénédictine to a mug. Fill with ice, top with cold milk and garnish with an orange slice and a cinnamon stick. (This cocktail can also be served hot—warm up the milk and leave out the ice.)

Blueberry Cream Slushy

"My husband and I went crazy over a blueberry smoothie at a local cafe. This was our attempt to recreate it...but we actually like it better than the original!" Ingredients 1 cup   frozen blueberries 1 cup   frozen strawberries 1 cup   pineapple and orange juice blend 1 cup   vanilla yogurt 2 teaspoons   sugar 6   ice cubes Directions Place the blueberries, strawberries, juice, yogurt and sugar into the container of a blender. Process until smooth. Add the ice cubes, and process until small enough to fit through a straw, but large enough to crunch on. Pour into glasses, and drink through straws.

Cinderella recipe

2 oz   orange juice 2 oz   pineapple juice 1 oz   lemon juice 1/2 oz   sugar syrup 1 oz   soda water Shake and strain into an ice-filled highball glass, and add soda. Garnish with a slice of lemon, add a straw, and serve.

Apello recipe

4 cl  orange juice 3 cl  grapefruit juice 1 cl  apple juice Stir together in a highball glass. Garnish with a maraschino cherry, and serve.

Afterglow recipe

1 part   grenadine syrup 4 parts   orange juice 4 parts   pineapple juice ice Mix. Serve over ice.

Strawberry Basil Soda

Makes about 6 (8-ounce) drinks 1 pound strawberries, trimmed Juice of 1/2 lemon 1/2 cup loosely packed basil leaves 1 cup sugar Carbonated water Juice strawberries using a juicer or blender.  If using a juicer:  Juice strawberries according to manufacturer's instructions. Discard pulp. If using a blender:  Place strawberries in a blender and pulse until smooth. Strain through a sieve, pushing juice through with a spatula. Discard solids. Pour strawberry juice into a liquid measuring cup. Add water to reach 1 cup if needed. Pour into a small saucepan with lemon juice, basil, and sugar. Heat mixture over medium heat until boiling. Simmer 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove from heat and let cool. Strain syrup through a sieve into a clean container and discard solids. To serve, spoon 2 tablespoons of syrup into an 8-ounce glass, top with carbonated water, and stir. Taste and add more syrup, if desired. Can refrigerate syrup up to 1 week.

Sangria cocktail

My favorite thing about sangria, the Spanish punch, isn't actually the wine or spirits; it's the luscious assortment of fruit that gets ladled into each glass. I love how refreshing it is to sip, and munch, on a warm day, and I've often felt bad that my teetotaling partner hasn't been able to enjoy it. I developed this non-alcoholic version with him in mind, and discovered that I like it just as much as the real thing. There are thousands of recipes for sangria, each using a different combination of wine and fruit, so I don't worry too much about whether this one is "authentic." For the fruit, I like to use the ample supply of citrus in my local markets and gardens – thin slices of oranges, lemons, limes – plus an apple for crunch. Chocolate cocktail

Ingredients 150g milk chocolate bar 210ml (just over 7fl oz) milk 75ml (2 1/4fl oz) vanilla syrup 3 squares of milk chocolate Ice 3 martini glasses Method Place the milk in a non-stick saucepan and heat on a gentle simmer. Break half of the chocolate bar into squares and add into the milk. Stir the milk and chocolate gently and continuously to create a liquid chocolate mixture. Allow to cool for one hr at room temperature and then store in fridge. Pour the cool milk mixture into a cocktail shaker and add the vanilla syrup.
